The snow is thawing, the ice has melted, I am receiving my daily allotment of Vitamin D, and spring seems to be creeping around the corner. Even little bulbs find themselves poking through the soil and tulips are back in our local bodega. We’ve officially entered the season of pastel hues and lawn picnics.

Spring Has Sprung

  1.  – The Sia cropped T-shirt in slub-cotton by Elizabeth and James is the perfect peach.
  2.  – Crafted from crisp cotton sateen, this classic pencil skirt sports a lush and lemony floral print that’s arguably a wearable work of art. It’s from Italy’s Luigi Verga, founded in 1940 and famous for its digital and hand-painted motifs.
  3.   – A simple, elegant leather sandal with a single wide strap at the front and leather heel cup at the back. Go ahead and frolic.
  4.  – Functional, versatile, yet playful, the Sally is a key bag for Spring ’15.
  5.  – A delicate gold bracelet featuring a spring green enamel diamond-shaped clasp. Go green.
  6.  – Betsey Johnson’s Spring Fling purple flower rhinestone stud earrings belong in your costume jewelry collection.
  7.  – Guard against the unpredictable seasonal weather with Burberry Prorsum’s  umbrella.
  8.   – This elegant pillow adds a luxurious style accent to the home. It’s hand loomed from a blend of beautifully soft llama, merino wool, pure merino sheep fur detailing.
  9. – As inspiration Stelton watched the changing colors of Danish nature. The highly insulated glass insert in these jugs will keep your beverages hot (or cold) whilst looking great. Perfect for your morning coffee, afternoon tea or spring-time lemonade.
  10.  – Go ahead and celebrate the weather. The unique design of GoVino’s set of four champagne flutes makes it easy to enjoy all your favorite bubbly on-the-go.
  11.  – Sharon Montrose has a way with animals. This little flamingo is better and brighter than your favorite plastic lawn ornament.
  12. – Even if you don’t possess a green thumb, you can still bring the tranquility of nature into your home with artist Melissa Moore’s illuminated ecosystem. A minimal, contemporary bell jar frames and protects the fragile mosses and spindly greens inside.

A Lovely Universe

Off the action of bustling Atlantic Avenue, which is a shopping destination in itself, sits an unassuming, postage-stamp sized boutique called A Lovely Universe.  This charming setup is chockfull of Parisian-inspired girly delights, featuring one of a kind jewelry and vintage inspired items for lady, baby and home.

Like happening into Narnia’s closet, or through a secret (albeit: fashionable) portal, the shop is nestled neatly onto Bond Street in Boerum Hill. You can almost miss it!
Upon entering, I saw the young owner, Sarah Cunningham, sitting cozy at the front desk, surrounded by delicate necklaces. Later we began to speak once she complimented my choice in a recently arrived Fair Isle sweater with side slits. Exceedingly open and charming, the shop matches Sarah’s approachable personality. No pretense; just happily curated wares!
If you’re looking for the perfect compliment to a Sunday stroll with warm coffee, and a hot croissant, visit A Lovely Universe. This quaint, perfectly decorated shop will have you “oohing” and “ahhing” (or painting your lips or nails a classic red) in no time.

Emerald City

The color wizards over at Pantone have announced the “color of the year” since the early 2000’s. They make this secret decision by convening twice a year, in a European capital. A secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ color standards groups is held and after two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year. The colors sometimes match a zeitgeist regarding a global mood, or even seem to the be the hue “de rigueur” of fashion and home decor.

The color for 2013 is a lively, radiant and lush green – EMERALD. A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony. Emerald also has royal and fantastical connotations.
